STEP 1 : Seed preparation & soil setup
Soak the seeds in warm water at about 50°C for 2–8 hours to stimulate germination, then remove and air-dry. Prepare loose, fertile, well-drained soil by mixing 2 parts garden soil, 1 part ash, and decomposed leaves. This mixture retains moisture well and provides rich nutrients for the plants.
STEP 2 : Sowing & initial care
Sow the seeds about 2 cm deep, water moderately to keep the soil moist, and place in a well-ventilated area with indirect sunlight. Seeds usually germinate in about 3 days. Keep the soil evenly moist and avoid waterlogging to promote healthy root growth.
Water regularly, especially when the plants are young; weed, loosen the soil, and remove yellow leaves or pests. Fertilize periodically to encourage strong growth. After about 2–3 months, purple bok choy will be ready for harvest with its vibrant color and fresh, crisp flavor.
